Meet the Owner | Artist | Instructor
Hello — I’m Rocky Lawrence, founder of Paint Away Art Studio in Grants Pass, Oregon.
Art has shaped the way I experience the world for as long as I can remember. As a child, one inspiring teacher introduced me to perspective drawing, and in that moment something truly shifted. I began to see everyday spaces with new curiosity and design awareness. That experience planted the belief that great teaching can influence the direction of a student’s life — a belief that continues to guide my work today.
Since beginning my teaching journey in 2023, I have had the privilege of working with hundreds of students across homeschool, public, charter, and private school settings, here in Grants Pass. I teach structured visual art classes for a wide range of ages and skill levels, from beginner children’s classes to advanced adult painting sessions. My approach focuses on building strong artistic foundations while encouraging creativity, confidence, and thoughtful observation.
Through years of working closely with students, I have seen how meaningful the creative process can be. For some, art is about developing technical skill. For others, it becomes a peaceful outlet — a way to slow down, reflect, and express ideas that may be difficult to put into words. Creating a positive and inspiring studio environment where both of these experiences can happen is central to my mission as an instructor.
In addition to weekly classes, I offer guided painting events, private lessons, and custom art parties. I also maintain an active personal art practice, working primarily in acrylic and oil painting as well as wood burning, and I occasionally accept commissioned pieces.
Outside the studio, I enjoy gardening, reading, continuing my own artistic education, and spending time with my husband and our three children. My hope is that every student who walks through my classroom gains not only artistic skill, but also a deeper sense of wonder and appreciation for the beauty and creativity found in the world around them.
